The canadian men's curling championship start tomorrow from Regina. Twelve teams will play a round robin to determine the 4 playoff spots. Currently only thegreek.com is offering wagering opportunities for this event. As well as offering wagering lines on each game thegreek.com has odds to win the event.
Alberta 8/5 Kevin Martin will be representing Alberta this year as he was able to get by rival and last year's Brier champion Randy Ferbey. Martin's rink is 2nd on the World Curling Tour in earnings and a 33-10 record in WCT events. I expect this team to come thru the round robin at 8-3.
Manitoba 7/2 Jeff Stoughton will be skipping this very experienced and capable rink. They are 4th in WCT earnings and were 26-13 on the tour. They lost in the final of the Olympic trials. Predicted record 7-4.Stoughton is a former Canadian and world champion.
Nova Scotia 4/1 Mark dacey's rink is 12th on the WCT with a 14-7 record. They are also former champions. They should also finish the round robin at 7-4. These odds are still too low for my liking.
Ontario 5/1 Glenn howerd leads his rink into this event with a 6th place ranking on the WCT. Howard went 32-13 this year and expect him to qualify for the playoffs this week. RR record 7-4
Quebec 12/1 J-M Menard is making his 3rd Brier appearance. Last year he started slow but got stronger as the week went on. Menard has a real shot this week after recording a 16-7 record on the WCT this year.I anticipate his RR record to be 7-4.
Saskatchewan 12/1 Pat Simmons rounds out the list of the legit contenders. simmons was 10th on the WCT money list this year. He should have a loud local crowd in his corner. I expect him to get off to a fast start and contend for a playoff berth.RR record prediction-7-4.
PEI 15/1 The veteran Roddy MacDonald represent the island. This team has no chance to even make the playoffs. They did not curl any WCT events this year and expect them to finish 3-8.
BC 15/1 This team came out of nowhere to win their provincial title. Brian Windsor is likely just happy to be in Regina. He had a 4-6 record this year on the WCT. 5-6 would be a good showing this week.
Newfoundland 15/1 Ken Peddigrew represents the Rock this week. Because of the Olympics Brad Gushue will not be present this week. This team has virtually no expereience on a national stage. I expect a4-7 record this week.
New Brunswick 25/1 James Grattan has been to this event in the past. However I dont expect much better than 4-7 from his rink who didnt compete on the WCT this year.
Northern Ontario 30/1 Robbie gordon from haileybury makes his second consecutive Brier appearance after going 5-6 last year. Gordon added david Mac Innes who has also skipped at this event before as his vice. This team is clkearly the best of the 2nd tier teams. I expect them to finish at 6-5 and possibly upset a few teams.
yukon/NWT 75/1 it may as well be 1,000,000 to 1. This team will finish at 1-10 or possibly go winless.I will likely go against this squad in all their games.
IF I had to make a futures bet it would be on Quebec or Saskatchewan.
Draw 1 goes tomorrow at 3:00 pm EST I will be back in the am for my selections
